The villain is ordinarily the greatest enemy that a hero has to face, but sometimes, they are overshadowed by an even greater threat. In order to overcome that next level of power, everyone, including the villains, have to team up to combine their strength in hopes of victory.
When the hero has to stoop to seeking help from the villain, fans can be sure that everyone is entirely out of options. What’s more, the fact that the villain is actually willing to put aside their own differences to work with their arch-nemesis proves how horrifying their shared foe must be. It’s not often that the villain teams up with the hero, but when they do, it’s certain to be serious circumstances.
10 Obito Saves Kakashi's Life A Second Time
Naruto
Madara was the greatest villain the Shinobi world had ever encountered, but even he was nothing but a fly in comparison to Kaguya. When Kaguya was resurrected, she was prepared to destroy everything indiscriminately – whether human or villain made little difference.
While Obito previously revealed himself as the ultimate harbinger of evil, he was one of the many victims of Naruto's Talk No Jutsu which caused him to see the error in his ways. With a newfound understanding, Obito gives everything to save Kakashi's life, and hands the fate of the world over to Naruto and Sasuke.
9 Sesshomaru Joins The Fight Against Naraku
Inuyasha
Being a powerful yokai with a lot of pride, Sesshomaru doesn't take getting tricked lightly. After Naraku betrayed Sesshomaru and even kidnaped Rin, Sesshomaru wasn't going to let it slide.
Sesshomaru still desired to control the Tessaiga in Inuyasha's possession, but that ultimately came second to seeking revenge on Naraku. With his brother's immense power finally on his side, Inuyasha was able to finally stop Naraku, even after he had control of the completed Shikon jewel.
8 There Would Be No Chainsaw Man Without A Devil Contract
Chainsaw Man
In Chainsaw Man, the sources of the Devil Hunter's powers are in their collaborative efforts with the very Devils they hunt for a living. Even though Devils are ordinarily selfish and unconcerned with human matters, under the right conditions, humans can enter into a contract with them to gain access to their overwhelming powers.
At the root of Chainsaw Man's strength is a contract between Denji and the Chainsaw Devil. In this way, only by working alongside the Devils and directing their powers toward positive goals do the Devil Hunters stand any chance against primal fears like the Control and War Devils.
7 Ash & Team Rocket Become A Family
Pokémon
While they've never been successful at stealing Ash's Pokémon, Team Rocket has always excelled at their ability to put together a convincing disguise. Though they never fool the audience, Team Rocket's disguises at the very least trick Ash, which is all that really matters.
After getting denied from entering Erica's Gym, Ash was left with little options. In acknowledgment of their powers of deception, Ash agreed to team up with Team Rocket; even going as far as dressing up as their daughter in accordance with their plan.
6 Hisoka Uses His Bungee Gum For Good
Hunter X Hunter
Hisoka is definitely one of the most complicated shonen villains. While he certainly acts as a villain and works toward selfish goals, he's also protected Gon & Killua, even if for his own nefarious goals. Still, when he needs a strong teammate in a game of dodgeball against Ging's old friend, Razor, Gon knows he can turn to Hisoka.
Many Hunter x Hunter fans have duly noted that this scene also introduced the most powerful character in the series: the dodgeball. After all, the fact it was able to withstand the incredibly powerful Nen abilities of Hisoka and Razer without being destroyed is a feat worthy of recognition.
5 Vegeta Would Even Join Kakorot If It Means Defeating Frieza
Dragon Ball
While Vegeta is undoubtedly one of Goku’s most powerful friends and allies, it wasn’t always that way. Vegeta used to be the Z Warrior’s greatest threat, nearly killing Goku and threatening the destruction of the Earth in the process. As the saying goes, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," and no one understands that phrase better than Vegeta.
When the Z Warriors found themselves face to face with Frieza, Vegeta took the opportunity to join their fight against the being who destroyed his planet and people. Vegeta's help in their struggle was pivotal, as Krillin and Gohan would have never held him or his Ginyu Force off for as long as they did if the Saiyan prince had not been on their side.
4 Frieza Helped Save The Universe
Dragon Ball
In the Tournament of Power, it was quickly established that Jiren was the most powerful fighter in the multiverse by far. Even the Gods of Destruction of his Universe were in fear of him - and for good reason.
Without Frieza's help throughout the Tournament of Power, Universe 7 would've been eliminated and erased by Zeno. Goku gave his all and put up an incredible fight, but it was the combined efforts of Android 17 and Frieza that put their forces over the top and solidified their victory.
3 Eren Brought Everyone Together By Tearing them Apart
Attack On Titan
When Eren enacts his plans to start the rumbling in order to kill everyone outside Paradis' walls, even his best friends can no longer go along with his choices. Given the overwhelming size of his Titan forces though, they can't hope to stand up to Eren on their own.
With no other options, the Marley soldiers are forced to team up with Levi, Mikasa, Armin and the other Paridis fugitives as they plan their retaliation against the Jaegerists. It's both a tragic and heartwarming moment in the series because it shows how far from grace Eren has fallen, yet how people can reconcile their differences by acknowledging their humanity.
2 Ichigo Teams Up With His Greatest Enemy To Defeat An Even Greater One
Bleach
Not only was Aizen Ichigo's greatest enemy, he was also the source of a good majority of his troubled past. Unfortunately, Ichigo was no match against Yhwach, son of the Soul King, on his own, and his only chance at possibly defeating him would be to accept whatever help he could get – even from Aizen.
Yhwach's power allows him to see all possible futures before they occur, giving him the opportunity to change the future as he sees fit – including his own death. With a power like that, only a power as useful as Aizen's Shikai can effect a being as untouchable as Yhwach.
1 Father Got Too Greedy
Fullmetal Alchemist
As father’s power began to waver from enduring the onslaught of attacks The alchemists threw at him, he could no longer contain God. In one final attempt to replenish his energy, Father absorbed Greed, but this came at a dire consequence.
Being that Greed wasn’t willing to go along with Father’s plan, Greed allowed himself to be absorbed only to poison Father from within, adding to his fragility and causing him to lose power faster. This act of selflessness was ultimately Greed’s most greedy act; he realized that the ultimate thing he could desire was friendship, and this led him to help humanity defeat Father once and for all.
