Ange Postecoglou shares his verdict on Radu Dragusin's performance for Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised defender Radu Dragusin after his performance against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Tottenham were on the road on Sunday afternoon, facing a vital battle against Aston Villa in their push for Champions League football.

Spurs turned in a superb performance, scoring four second-half goals to completely blow Villa away and, crucially, close the gap to fourth place.

James Maddison and Brennan Johnson opened up a 2-0 lead John McGinn was sent off for a foul on Destiny Udogie.

Son Heung-min thrashed in a third before substitute Timo Werner added number four late on, wrapping up an enormous win for Tottenham.

Tottenham didn’t have it all their own way though and had to cope with a hefty blow early in the second half.

Defender Micky van de Ven had to come off with an injury, raising fears that he will face another spell on the sidelines.

Fortunately, Tottenham invested in a new centre back in January, bringing Genoa star Radu Dragusin to North London.

The Romanian has had to be patient, waiting for his chance to shine in the Tottenham defence.

Dragusin came in and impressed, helping Tottenham claim all three points and a clean sheet.

Postecoglou was answering a question about Van de Ven’s injury, suggesting that the Dutchman doesn’t think the injury is too worrying.

The Spurs boss then hailed Dragusin, suggesting that he handled the occasion really well and turned in a strong performance.

“I’m not sure, he doesn’t think it’s anything too significant,” said Postecoglou. “So disappointing for him because he was outstanding again up until that point. Great for Radu to come in, his first significant game-time in a big game and I thought he handled it really well,” he added.

Van de Ven may not think the injury is too bad, but Tottenham’s medical team will be taking a very close look at him in the coming days.

Waiting so long for a chance may be frustrating for Dragusin, but Tottenham will now feel secure even if Van de Ven is out, as the Romanian can step in and play alongside Cristian Romero.

Sunday’s performance showed the kind of quality Dragusin can bring and he seems ready to take his chance whenever it comes along.
