Manchester City’s Zack Steffen is reportedly poised to become the latest goalkeeper to leave the Premier League for Major League Soccer.
ESPN says the USMNT international, who has been capped 29 times by the Stars and Stripes, is in talks over a January move to the Colorado Rapids.
Steffen to follow in Lloris footsteps?
Were Steffen to sign for the Rapids, who were MLS champions in 2010, he would follow former France stopper Hugo Lloris in swapping England for North America.
World Cup winner Lloris was announced as a new Los Angeles FC player in late December, ending the 37-year-old’s 12-season spell at Tottenham Hotspur.
Few opportunities at Man City
Steffen, 28, joined City from Columbus Crew in 2019, but has managed just 21 appearances for the nine-time English champions.
He spent the 2019/20 season on loan at German club Fortuna Düsseldorf, before joining English Championship side Middlesbrough on a year-long deal in 2022/23.
Steffen had a period as second choice to City’s No. 1 keeper, Ederson Moraes, but has since slipped behind Stefan Ortega in the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
