Tottenham Hotspur target Radu Dragusin learned from 'excellent' one-time Pochettino signing

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on Genoa defender Radu Dragusin – a player who learned a lot from ex-Spurs centre back Federico Fazio.

We knew that Tottenham simply had to bring in another centre back during this transfer window.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven looked to be forming an outstanding partnership earlier in the season but both now find themselves on the treatment table.

Spurs have a real lack of depth behind Romero and Van de Ven, and they appear to be closing in on a new defensive addition…

HITC Sport understands that Spurs are now pushing to finalise a deal for the signature of Genoa centre back Radu Dragusin.

Dragusin has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham and the two clubs are just trying to thrash out a deal.

The Romanian is now expected to cost around £25million and Spurs will hope to reach an agreement soon amid interest from other clubs.

Dragusin is only 21 and is far from the finished product, but Tottenham will have faith in him developing into a star.

A former Juventus talent, Dragusin actually spent time alongside a former Tottenham defender earlier in his development.

Dragusin was loaned out to Salernitana in 2022 and made seven appearances for the club before heading back to Turin.

Dragusin’s centre back partner in six of those games, with one as a substitute, was the former Spurs centre back Federico Fazio.

The Argentinian was signed by Mauricio Pochettino in 2014, making the move from Sevilla to North London.

Fazio didn’t exactly impress at Tottenham, managing just 20 Premier League appearances before heading back to Sevilla and then onto Roma.

Few Tottenham fans will hold Fazio in high esteem, but he made an impact on Dragusin during their time together.

Dragusin called Fazio a ‘great defender’ and noted that he was an ‘excellent’ example to follow, learning plenty from such an experienced defender.

“Fazio is a great defender, he has a lot of experience and I coordinate with him to move better. In these remaining matches I will try to raise my personal level and he is an excellent guide,” said Dragusin.

Dragusin now looks set to follow in Fazio’s footsteps with a move to Tottenham, as long as Spurs can actually agree a fee with Genoa.

Tottenham fans would certainly want Dragusin’s Spurs career to go a little better than Fazio’s, but the Argentinian is just one of a number of defenders who will have helped shape Dragusin into the player he is today – and that influence may yet help Dragusin became a Spurs star of the future.
