BBC’s The Traitors is returning today for season 2… but fans were shocked to discover that one of the stars has joined a different TV show in a bid to find romance.
In November 2022, the first series of the UK version of the show was released on BBC One, introducing viewers to a game rife with manipulation, paranoia and cunning, which was all overseen by host Claudia Winkleman.
The aim is for the ‘Faithfuls’ to root out the secret ‘Traitors’ among them, while also working together to build up a cash prize that they’ll hopefully win in the end, if they’ve managed to banish the right people from their roundtable.
One of the people who made it right to the end, splitting a jackpot of more than £100,000, was Aaron Evans – who, it turns out, has been in the First Dates restaurant since his big win.
On Tuesday January 2, the Channel 4 programme returned with maître d’ Fred Sirieix and bartender Merlin Griffiths welcoming hopeful singletons to their brand new restaurant in Bath, as they embarked on the exciting and anxiety-inducing prospect of going on first dates.
At the beginning of the first episode of the new series, a teaser was revealed showing fans what they can expect in the subsequent instalments… which is where they laid eyes on Aaron.
‘Catching up on #FirstDates and Aaron from The Traitors popped up in the series preview!’ Ryan wrote on X.
‘Aaron from The Traitors on First Dates?! 😱’ added another viewer, who goes by the handle @Wandoful.
After the first series of the UK version of The Traitors aired, Aaron revealed that he’d had plenty of admirers sliding into his DMs.
‘I’ve had a lot of love and a lot of mums offering hugs up. There’s a fan page right now of me in trousers,’ he told The Sun at the time.
The former property agent also disclosed that he was leaving his job and going on travelling, documenting his time abroad on YouTube.
In a recent video posted on the platform, he opened up about his latest TV ventures when asked by a fan if he was going to do any reality or dating shows after The Traitors.
‘I’ve gone on First Dates and I’ve also gone on Mastermind. However, I do not know when they’re going to be posted,’ he said.
‘I believe that First Dates will be out soon, but I’ve not been told an exact date yet. So I’ll keep you guys updated as of when.’
The grand finale of the first series of The Traitors aired on December 22 2022, with Aaron, Hannah Byczkowski, Meryl Williams and Wilf Webster making it to the end.
At the last moment, Wilf was unmasked as a Traitor, much to the shock of the remaining three contestants, who therefore split the £101,050 prize between them.
The Traitors begins tonight at 9pm on BBC One, with the first three episodes being made available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
First Dates is available to watch on Channel 4.
