Japanese anime has given fans plenty of powerful characters, often leaving fans debating who is the strongest. These anime characters have all trained and honed their abilities to become some of the most powerful characters in anime and some of the most powerful fictional characters ever.
What makes these anime characters so powerful and iconic are their signature moves—their favorite attack that they use as their ace in the hole. These unique special attacks have solidified these anime legends as some of the most powerful characters in fiction. From Naruto's Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken in Naruto to Goku's Spirit Bomb in Dragon Ball, no stronger signature moves exist.
Update on May 26th, 2023, by Louis Kemner: Many of the most popular and memorable anime series are action/adventure stories where the heroes and villains each have signature moves that are an extension of who they are as a warrior. In fact, these characters will proudly shout their attack's name as they use it, psyching themselves up with their ultra-cool signature move and winning the day in true style. Let's check out even more signature moves that anime fans everywhere love to watch unfold on the screen.
15 Hinokami Kagura (Demon Slayer)
Demon Slayer's young swordsman protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, started the series using water breathing as an elegant and flowing sword style. However, that wasn't enough to defeat the Lower Moon 5, Rui, so Tanjiro learned to perform Hinokami Kagura as a sun-based alternative.
Since then, Hinokami Kagura has slowly replaced water breathing as Tanjiro's primary technique; with it, he can take on the likes of Daki, Gyutaro, and even the Upper Moon 4, Hantengu. The incredible power of the sun is why Muzan fears the Kamado family.
14 Backlash Wave (Inuyasha)
The half-demon warrior Inuyasha can use his bare claws to fight other demons, but then he obtained the legendary sword Tetsusaiga and learned much stronger techniques. He started with the ranged attack Wind Scar, then learned to perform the Backlash Wave.
The Backlash Wave is one of Inuyasha's strongest techniques among all its characters. With this move, Inuyasha can redirect his enemy's attack back at them with a combined Wind Scar, enough to destroy almost any foe he can expect to face in feudal Japan.
13 Predator (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)
Rimuru Tempest was reborn as a blue slime with several key abilities in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, most of all the Predator skill. With this technique, Rimuru can stretch out his slime body and engulf another creature, then absorb it and its essence.
Predator isn't foolproof since sufficiently strong victims may resist and break free. Usually, though, Rimuru can easily absorb someone or something with Predator, allowing him to use the target's abilities and even morph into its form.
12 United States Of Smash (My Hero Academia)
As seen in Episode 49 of My Hero Academia, The United States Of Smash was All Might's final move to defeat the super-villain All For One. This powerful attack was created by harnessing the power of All Might's quirk, One For All, to unleash a massive punch that would not only win him the fight but also leave a massive crater in the ground.
All Might's powerful blow even left a whirlpool of wind after the attack from all the force of this punch. Unfortunately for All Might, this attack would be his last as a Pro Hero due to his already weakened state mixed with the sheer power of this signature move.
11 Gear Fourth (One Piece)
One Piece protagonist Monkey D. Luffy started using Gears Two and Three in the Water 7 saga against CP9, then finally unlocked Gear Fourth in the Dressrosa saga in the New World. Luffy needed it to take down his strongest opponent yet, the colorful but cruel Donquixote Doflamingo.
In his fight with Doflamingo, Luffy showcased Gear Four, using Haki to make his body stronger and more rubbery than ever. As expected, Luffy quickly wore himself out using this advanced move and needed help to recover, but Gear Fourth's immense power eventually won him the day.
10 Attack Titan Form (Attack On Titan)
In Attack on Titan, the Titan Shifter characters, including the antihero Eren Yeager, can use their Titan forms as techniques. Eren surprised even himself the first time he used the Attack Titan's power in battle, and he had to convince everyone that he wasn't the enemy.
Eren's Attack Titan form is a lean, powerful being designed for combat, as per its name. This oversized technique became even more effective when Eren learned some grappling techniques to take on Reiner Braun's own Armored Titan in battle.
9 The Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken (Naruto Shippuden)
The Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken is the strongest version of Naruto's signature move, the Rasengan. The Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken was seen in Episode 477 of Naruto Shippuden as Naruto is seen battling Sasuke for the final time.
The Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken uses almost every ability Naruto has in his arsenal. He must be in Six Paths mode and using a large portion of Kurama's chakra. The move is made by fusing natural energy with his Tailed Beast Rasenshuriken, making a signature move that can stop even Sasuke's strongest attacks.
8 Enuma Elish (Fate)
Gilgamesh is seen using his Enuma Elish move several times throughout his many appearances in the various Fate series. This powerful attack is only possible because of Gilgamesh's Noble Phantasm, EA.
EA is a sword that Gilgamesh can summon from the Gate Of Babylon and is Gilgamesh's favorite weapon in his arsenal of endless swords. Enuma Elish is Gilgamesh's strongest move, and he can perform using EA, as he can create a massive read beam that has destroyed some of the most powerful "servants" in Fate.
7 Unlimited Void (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Characters in Jujutsu Kaisen use Domain Expansion to create a space for the user that helps them in battle. Gojo's Unlimited Void is a complicated signature move derived from Domain Expansion.
Different characters have different domains, but Gojo's Unlimited Void is easily the strongest, as he can take his enemy to what seems to be the center of the universe and can fill the opponent's head with an infinite amount of knowledge. It is a slow and painful death for Jogo in Episode 7 of Jujutsu Kaisen, as the overwhelming feeling is too much for him to handle.
6 Mugetsu (Bleach)
In Episode 309 of Bleach, protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki is battling his worst enemy, ex-Captain Sosuke Aizen. In an attempt to defeat Aizen, Ichigo uses an ability called the Final Getsuga, which changes his appearance and takes away a lot of his powers.
While this is a disadvantage in many ways, the Final Getsuga form allows Ichigo to use the Mugetsu ability to launch a massive amount of black flames called Reiatsu at Aizen, which is extremely effective. Unfortunately, while this move is strong, it is also very risky, and Ichigo may never regain the power he once had.
5 Full Counter (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Meliodas from The Seven Deadly Sins uses the signature move Full Counter. Full Counter is very powerful; whenever he is holding a weapon with a grip on it, he can reflect any of his opponents' magical attacks and return them in the direction of the enemy.
When reflected, the damage inflicted upon Meliodas' opponents is more than double the original attack. The only way of standing a chance against Meliodas is if his opponent is a good close-range fighter. Even then, Meliodas still has plenty of other moves in his arsenal to deal with close-range attacks, making Full Counter a tricky signature move for his opponents to worry about constantly.
4 Giga Drill Breaker (Gurren Lagann)
While the Giga Drill Breaker move is first used by Kamina in Episode 1 of Gurren Lagann, it is Simon that uses this signature move to defeat many of the major villains in the show. This move is performed by charging the Giga Drill's Spiral Power on Simon's mech and launching it at his foes.
Simon's mech, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, is one of only a handful of mechs to pull off this powerful move. King Kattan and Super Granzeboma have executed variations of this attack, but it is Simon's signature move for a reason, as he and the late Kamina are the only ones who truly know how to use the Giga Drill Breaker.
3 Spirit Bomb (Dragon Ball)
There is debate among Dragon Ball fans regarding whether Goku's signature move is the Kamehameha or the Spirit Bomb. While he uses the Kamehameha more, Goku uses the Spirit Bomb as his signature ace in the hole many times.
Ever since Goku learned this signature move from King Kai, he has been able to channel the energy from living things around him that combine into a massive ball of power. When Goku drops the Spirit Bomb on his opponents, it deals massive destruction.
2 Serious Punch (One-Punch Man)
Saitama is the main protagonist of One-Punch Man. True to the anime's title, Saitama can destroy almost every single one of his enemies with one punch. The funny part about these powerful punches is that he isn't even trying while throwing them.
However, a few characters in One-Punch Man push Saitama to use a Serious Punch, essentially Saitama throwing one of his strong punches. The force from these Serious Punches has broken through entire mountains and has even parted clouds in the earth's atmosphere. Even with all this power, fans still haven't seen one of Saitama's punches at full strength.
1 Gold Experience Requiem (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
JoJo's Bizzare Adventure is filled with weird and powerful abilities. Giorno Giovanna and his stand Golden Experience Requiem take the cake for the strongest ability in the show and also the strongest ability in anime.
After Giorno's Stand Golden Experience was shot with the Stand Arrow, it became Golden Experience Requiem, which can reset any action done by something and return its state to "zero." As seen in Giorno's fight against Diavolo, he can repeat this process as often as he wants. Giorno makes Diavolo die infinite times thanks to this broken signature move.
