According to Argentine journalists Germán García Grova and César Luis Merlo, Seattle and Lanús are currently exchanging documents with the aim of finalizing the transaction. Further details of the transfer are expected to be released in the coming days.
In the 2023 season, De la Vega played 25 matches for Lanús, scoring six goals and providing three assists, significantly contributing to the Argentine team’s results. His performance has made him a valuable asset, potentially leading to a substantial transfer fee.
MLS eyeing Argentine gems
The MLS has been increasingly turning its attention to the talents emerging from Argentina. The country has become an attractive market for the growing league, evidenced by the fact that it ranks as the second-highest nation in terms of foreign players in the North American league, just behind Canada, which also hosts three MLS clubs.
Players like Tomás Chancalay, Ramiro Henrique, Facundo Farías, Julián Aude, Tomás Avilés, and Julián Fernández have left Argentine football to try their luck in the US, with aspirations to eventually make a big move to European leagues.
Promising South American players such as Brenner, Cristian Cásseres Jr, Jhon Durán, Marcos López, Jesús Medina, Miguel Almirón, and Carlos Gruezo have already transitioned from the MLS to clubs in Europe. This trend underscores the MLS’s role as a stepping stone for South American talents aspiring to play in the Old Continent.
