The formerly shelved Coyote vs. Acme movie starring the Looney Tunes character, Wile E. Coyote, resurfaced on the internet, as the character’s voice actor Eric Bauza shared the first look of the finished film and teasing a possible 2024 release date.
Coyote vs. Acme is a hybrid live-action / animation film that pits Wile E. Coyote against the company ACME in a legal battle, as Coyote files a complaint on the company for all his failed attempts to catch the Road Runner despite using Acme’s products all these years.

As seen from Eric Bauza’s post the uncancelled film combines both animated and live-action cast on the screen, much like Warner Bros’ previous films Space Jam, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Confirmed cast members include Eric Bauza who will voice Wile E. Coyote, Will Forte who will play Coyote’s Lawyer, and Lana Condor whose role is yet to be revealed. Additional cast members also include John Cena, who will play the lawyer that will represent Acme Corporation and who’s also Will Forte’s former boss from his previous law firm.
The film was based on a fictional article from 1990 by Ian Frazier titled “Coyote v. Acme” for the magazine the “New Yorker” and has been under development all the way from 2018 with story and screenplay by Samy Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater with Dave Green as its director.
Initially, the film was supposed to be released in the US on July 21, 2023, and be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. But, in April 2022, it was removed from its schedule and was replaced by Barbie. Later in November 2023, it was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery that they wouldn’t release the film despite being completed, which was a similar case to the unreleased Batgirl movie. Fortunately, later in the same month, the decision was reversed for the Coyote movie, opening its distribution rights for sale and allowing other distributors to release the film. Currently, there are still no solid buyers for its distribution rights, but Netflix and Paramount were reportedly interested and have already made bids.
Still, there is no solid date when the Coyote vs. Acme movie will be releasing and if it will have a theatrical release.
