Bayern Munich have backed away from a deal for Kieran Trippier as they were unwilling to pay £20million for the Newcastle United defender, HITC understands.
Bayern made a move for Trippier last week and the England international had agreed to join the club, where he would of linked up with close friend Harry Kane.
The German giants made a couple of offers to Newcastle for a permanent deal with their second offer being worth €15million (£12.8million) – but HITC sources have confirmed that they were not willing to meet the asking price of £20million (€23million).
With Newcastle’s asking price too much, Bayern have now backed away from a deal for Trippier – as confirmed by sporting director Christoph Freund.
Deal off
Freund told Sky Deutschland: “The Trippier topic is over.
“We only do what we are 100% convinced of, that’s what we’ve always said. All parameters have to fit for the player, for us and for the selling club and that wasn’t the case. It’s over.”
With Trippier off the agenda, Bayern at the same time have been looking at Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele and Freund confirmed that they were still looking at a deal for the French international.
Mukiele remains an option
When also asked if they still wanted Mukiele, he replied: “Yes.”
As it stands PSG’s demands are too much for Bayern, but they are hope they can structure a loan deal before the end of the window as it is understood Mukiele is keen to move to Munich.
